PROFIT is the outgrowth two international research centers

Both centers were funded by the US National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Science Council (NSC) in Taiwan, and the Chinese National Science Foundation (CNSF). It consists of leading researchers from University of California, Los Angeles, University of California, Santa Barbara, Peking University (Beijing, China), Tsinghua University (Beijing, China), Zhejiang University (Hangzhou, China), National Tsinghua University (Hsinshu, Taiwan), and National Taiwan University (Taipei, Taiwan).  These two centers organized a series of workshops in the past decade, attended by leading researchers, senior executives, entrepreneurs, analysts, young faculty and graduate students related to the IC technologies from the Pacific-Rim region, which greatly influenced and stimulated the development of IC technology development and roadmaps in these regions.   The workshops organized by the IC-SOC and IC-DNF are listed below.

PROFIT is formed to continue to organize the annual workshops on IC technologies. Moreover, it is formed as a think-tank to provide strategic directions and advices for IC technology development roadmaps for the Pacific-Rim region.  PROFIT is currently sponsored by PKU/UCLA Joint Research Institute for Science and Engineering, Center for Energy-efficient Computing and Applications, PKU and MPRC (Microprocessor Research Center).
